(This took place place on August 2026 as part of David Williamson’s Sleight School).

Giancarlo Scalia is a Madrid-based Italian sleight-of-hand artist whose work is quietly redefining what effortless card magic looks like. He moves like an actor and thinks like a director. Timing, body language, and motivation are his tools — and he uses them to make some of the most advanced sleights in modern card magic look completely casual, almost accidental.

If DaOrtiz opened the door to Spanish-school thinking for you, Giancarlo walks you through the next room.

The same lineage. A different voice.

Giancarlo belongs to the artistic tradition that made the Spanish school world-famous: an approach where technique, psychology, and theater merge into something that feels less like magic and more like impossibility happening in real time.

Where DaOrtiz builds chaos and construction, Giancarlo goes minimalist, ultra-clean, hypervisual, and calm in a way that makes it even harder to catch. Same philosophy. Different fingerprint.

He fooled Penn and Teller on Season 11 of Fool Us with a sleight-of-hand card routine that impressed two of the most critical minds in magic. That’s the standard he works at.

What this seminar is built around

This isn’t a bag of tricks. It’s a working session with a professional who has built an international reputation on three things:

Economy of method. Giancarlo uses a small, powerful toolkit of sleights in many different ways. What you learn here becomes part of your long-term arsenal.

Motivation and justification. Every movement has a reason rooted in theater and acting. Your handling stops looking like moves and starts looking like natural behavior.

Audience-first design. Structure, rhythm, and emotion are treated as techniques in their own right. The experience you create is as strong as the method behind it.

What you’ll take away

Expect a dense, practical session with a performer who has spent years distilling his craft down to what actually works in front of real people. His background in theater and circus informs everything, how he stands, how he moves, how he times a pause. None of it is accidental.

You’ll come away with routines that are ready to perform, a cleaner technical foundation, and a sharper understanding of how motivation and misdirection turn good sleight of hand into something that genuinely fools people. The material is built to work in tight spaces, casual settings, and paid professional work alike — the kind of thing you can put straight into your act and feel immediately at home with.

This is the seminar for students who want to stop accumulating moves and start building a style.

Why now

Giancarlo Scalia is in that explosive, creative phase of his career, the moment when everything is firing, the ideas are pouring out, and the teaching is at its most alive. This is your chance to study with one of the defining sleight-of-hand voices of the next generation while that window is open.
